Side FX Band Coming to Nantucket Music Scene

Side FX with Kim Cameron  The Side FX band discuss how the Nantucket landscape inspired their music

The acclaimed Washington DC based Side FX band are coming to Nantucket!

For Side FX singer and songwriter Kim Cameron, the gorgeous Nantucket landscapes are just a small part of the reason she returns every year to visit what she calls this “wonderland of romance.”

“Life balance is what Nantucket is what it is all about for me - so much that I found myself feeling like I had totally escaped the normal rat race at the local Cisco brewery one day, last year.” And it was during that one day, at the popular local brewery, that Kim was inspired to write the song “Timeless”, which will be featured in her upcoming album “Turning Point”, scheduled for release in the fall.

Producer Robert Jazayeri expects the lively, upbeat song to be the hit of her sophomore album: “Its catchy beat and high pitched sounds are unlike any other songs that she has developed. It has a fun fresh feel that just sounds like summer. Perfect for a day in the Islands!”

You can hear the song “Timeless”, a tribute to the gorgeous island of Nantucket, on Side FX’s website (www.sidefxband.net), or Kim Cameron’s site (www.kimcameronmusic.com). And you can download it now for just $1 at http://www.fizzkicks.com/sidefxband/

You can also tune in on Saturday July 11th at 9:15AM to watch Kim Cameron & the Side FX band perform the song live on Plum TV Nantucket.

New Hyannis Musical Project; Needs Drums/Guitar

Are someone who wants to play music?? Be unique?? Make your own sound and play with a few other talented musicians?? well, then this is your chance! We have three singers: one plays acoustic and the other bass/guitar. Our priority is original tunes, with the likeliness we may have to learn a few covers to get the audiences to listen to us. However, the strict focus is on tunes we have written. It is an Alternative/Indie/Pop sound at the moment.

The three of us are eager to take the 20 or so songs we;we’ve been cleaning up out into the bars/clubs of Cape Cod, perhaps further. Primarily we are fixed on being different and having dedicated musicians that will commit to our rehearsal schedule, make up for missed ones and show up on time. We meet on Thursday evenings from 7:00-10:30. All songs can be heard at either two websites submitted with this ad. We want everyone to put their ideas into this and won’t stand for slackers. We are easy going, diligent and laid back folks. After taking a listen, you like what you hear and are tempted to audition/sit-in on a rehearsal contact us.

Naukabout Music Festival Review and Media Gallery

The Rustic Overtones

Just got back from attending the 1st annual Naukabout Music Festival at the Barnstable County Fairgrounds. Everyone was in a festive mood (excuse the pun), the weather was excellent despite a rain forecast, and there was plenty of free refreshments from Gofast Sports. The event’s proceeds are to benefit the Elias Fund.

The music performers were Jim Decatur, Pete & Mike Band, Tin Can Tele, Barefoot Truth, The Old Silver Band, Ryan Montbleau, Braddigan Of Dispatch, and The Rustic Overtones.

The Pete & Mike Band

Some of the bands had some interesting lineups. Two different bands had a stand up bass, Mike from the Pete & Mike Band sat in with The Old Silver Band, and the Rustic Overtones for instance had no less than two saxophonists. Good variety for my personal liking.

Naukabout Music Festival - Ryan Montbleau

Kudos to the sound men who had a lot to deal with trying to engineer sounds for 8 separate bands. Just getting the mics to work alone is a very daunting task, never mind trying to mix them all professionally. Well done. Yes there were a few glitches, but the sound quality was excellent for an outdoor concert.

As for the bands, my personal favorite was The Barefoot Truth. The drummer/guitarist/lead singer is a very good vocalist that reminds me of a cross between Paul Simon and John Mayer, and the song entitled ‘Broken Road’ is destined to be a hit.

Barefoot Truth

All of the bands were professional and showed lots of promise. One song that stood out to me, was the opening number from The Rustic Overtones’ ‘Combustible’. They were perhaps the most polished of all of the performers.

The Old Silver Band

Special thanks to all of the sponsors today: Bear Naked, TheIslandMerchant, Hyannis Ice Cream, The Burrito Bus, Mandala Arts, Music Of The Bay, British Beer Company, Peak Organic Brewing Company, Green Over, Fuze, Surfrider Foundation, and of course the aforementioned Go Fast Sports.

Braddigan of Dispatch

All in all, a good time. Below are video links to some of the performers shot with my crappy camera, so I apologize for the jumpiness. I am linking here because the camera does produce good sound quality, and couple that with a good sound system, the video is worth listening to anyway..

1st Annual Naukabout Music Festival of Cape Cod

Company Sponsors Music Festival in Support of the Elias Fund Children’s Charity

Cape Cod, Massachusetts, August 2008 – Naukabout, a lifestyle clothing company that offers active/lifestyle/casual clothing for men, women and children, is excited to announce their 1st Annual Naukabout Music Festival of Cape Cod, to be held at The Barnstable County Fairgrounds on Saturday, August 16th, 2008, at 12:30 p.m.. Tickets are $24 online, $30 at the gate.

The name Naukabout is derived from a concept tracing back to the owner’s childhood, and embodies one’s most memorable moments, places and life adventures. The impetus of the music festival and the clothing line itself has been many years in the making. “Twenty years ago, my father would come home from work and change into his most comfortable clothes, his ‘naukabouts’,” said Adam Conley, director of Operations for Naukabout. “Translating those moments spent with Dad into a branded apparel line came about very naturally. Our commitment to the quality of the product was born out of our loyalty to the concept.”

With the upcoming festival, the company founders are looking to perpetuate a social community that is brought together by, and comprised of, Naukabout moments and ideals. The one day, rain or shine outdoor event will be raising money for The Elias Fund, a non-profit organization that provides hope and opportunity to Zimbabwean youth. The festival will feature the music of The Rustic Overtones, Braddigan from Dispatch, Ryan Montbleau Band, The Old Silver Band, Barefoot Truth, Tin Can Tele, The Pete & Mike Band and Jim Decatur. Also featured will be Cisco Brewery, Peak Brewery, Island Merchant BBQ, The Burrito Bus, Hyannis Ice Cream, Bear Naked, BBC Chowder and much more.
